About the Course:
::WELCOME::
Bollywood, a nickname for the world's largest film industry, is quickly gaining a vast following outside India. However, the films may be difficult or intimidating to approach alone. Through this course, we hope to make the wide and multi-faceted world of Hindi cinema more approachable and familiar. We will chronologically survey fourteen films, beginning with yesteryear classics and progressing to modern films. In doing so, we aim to acquaint you with both Bollywood's greatest successes as well as the rich and vibrant culture they represent.
No previous experience with the films or the Hindi language is required!
::COURSE INFORMATION::
We will be screening films every week, beginning with the first class! Short lectures and discussions on weekly themes will precede and follow each screening. Every screening will also be supplemented with short articles relating to the week's particular theme. All readings will compiled into a reader, which will be available at the beginning of the semester.
Check syllabus for more information.
