About the Course:

This course covers the history of chess, rules, basic strategies and tactics, openings, endgames, game analysis, variations, advanced strategy, advanced tactics, and a bit on chess and life. By the end of the course, students should be able to play chess well, enjoy it, and understand why chess matters.

If you have a chess set (of roughly standard size, not a travel-set), please bring it.

NB – there will be readings and short essays required for this class. See the syllabus for details.

How to Enroll:

You must come to one of the first two sessions to be enrolled (unless you have tournament experience). Course control numbers will be given out in class.
