Art for Social Change
About the Course:
Art creates impact - and impact is needed to create change. This semester-long curriculum guides students through researching a social issue, analyzing it critically, and addressing it through public, multimedia art. Students will meet once a week to discuss articles, interact with practicing artists, and utilize studio time to produce aesthetically striking and critically innovative work. This class will also involve documentary screenings, student presentations, and short reflective papers. There will be two main projects: a mini poster project and a large public exhibition project. This class has been granted $1,600 by the UCIRA to implement it's projects. Individual artists or activists will learn to collaborate and raise community awareness through the power of art.
