About the Course:
“Humor can be dissected as a frog can, but the thing dies in the process and the innards are discouraging to any but the pure scientific mind.” – E.B. White
Through comedic media (movies, tv shows, etc), discussion, and academic explorations of comedy we will attempt to dissect the metaphoric frog, and ask/answer basic questions about comedy/humor that many people view as either too unimportant or too dangerous to entertain.
Most meetings will include a media viewing, followed by a discussion based on the material seen as well as a short reading assignment (5 to 15 pages) chosen to help elucidate the ideas presented on that day.
I have uploaded a preliminary syllabus to help you gauge the nature of the course. It is the exact material (with dates changed) presented during the fall section. It should be noted that some of the readings, a few of the topics, and their accompanying media will likely change in response to their effectiveness during the fall semester. The readings will not change in length, just content.
How to Enroll:
As English department policy concerning DeCals requires, course control numbers will not be handed out until the first class meeting. To be added to the projected roster, please send a brief e-mail with your name and enrollment status (freshman, junior, etc.) expressing interest in the course to bradleyhunt@gmail.com.
